The earliest fossil of a new ornithischian dinosaur in Asia discovered in Yunyang
Recently, Chongqing Geological Survey Institute announced that it has recently made a major breakthrough in the study of Chongqing Yunyang World-Class Dinosaur Fauna of Jurassic Period, and found a new ornithischian dinosaur fossil about 170 million years ago. Relevant research results have been published in international authoritative journals.
According to the person in charge of Chongqing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, the dinosaur fossil found this time was named "Modaoxi Three Gorges Dinosaur". It was a small sub-adult, herbivorous dinosaur with a height of 1.7 meters. It was delicate and dexterous, good at running fast with both feet, and often haunted the scrub forest.
The fossil specimen of "Modaoxi Three Gorges Dinosaur" was excavated in Yunyang, Chongqing, with 55 associated ornithischian dinosaur head bones.
According to the research results, the dinosaur skeleton has unique morphological characteristics, and it was the earliest new ornithischian dinosaur specimen found in Asia. Researchers have identified it as a new genus and new species, and named it "Modaoxi Three Gorges Dinosaur" according to the discovery site.
According to the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Geological Survey Institute, the discovery and research of "Modaoxi Three Gorges Dinosaur" were of great significance to enhance the scientific connotation and influence of Chongqing Yunyang World-Class Dinosaur Fauna of Jurassic Period.
