Shopping carnival launched in all business districts
The 2020 Chongqing Business District Shopping Festival was jointly sponsored by the Municipal Commission of Commerce, district and county governments, Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing High-tech Zone and Wansheng Economic Development Zone Management Committee. Including themes such as clothing, beauty, and makeup, and home appliances and home improvements, it brought together more than 8,500 enterprises and 20,141 stores.
Online and offline integrated marketing
The event’s popularity is in part attributed to online marketing including live streaming, placing orders via QR codes, pick up points in stores and e-coupons.
This enables the event to utilise online experiences via platforms such as Alibaba to drive footfall to physical spaces. Sixty five live broadcasts delivered consumers to 160 commercial complexes and 13,000 businesses, whilst word-of-mouth information exchange led to over 18 million Rmb in transactions.
Upturn in consumer spending and recovery
The linking of online and offline consumer experiences has contributed to post-COVID economic recovery in consumer spending. This was part of a broader ongoing campaign to expand domestic demand and stabilize economic growth. In the first three quarters of this year, Chongqing ranked third in China with a total consumer spend of 832.96 billion Rmb.
