Dadukou District is in the southwest of the main urban area of Chongqing, and bordered for 36km by the Yangtze River. It covers an area of 103 square kilometers, and has a permanent resident population of 426,000. Dadukou District is a key hub for the national strategic implementation of "One Belt and One Road" in southwest Chongqing, the new land-sea corridor in the west of China and Singapore (Chongqing), the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin City Economic Circle.
The region is named after a Qing Dynasty Daoguang period crossing on the north bank of the Yangtze River. In 1938, Hanyang Iron Works, the predecessor of Heavy Steel Company, moved to Dadukou, and in 1965, Dadukou became a centre for Heavy Steel.
In 1995, Dadukou was expanded and in 2011, heavy steel moved out of the area and the district began a new development plan.
In 2013, Dadukou District, as the only district and county in Chongqing, was included in the "National Old Industrial Base Adjustment and Transformation Plan (2013-2022)"; In April 2014, it was identified as a pilot area for the relocation and transformation of old urban industrial areas in China.

In 2023, the world-renowned Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music determined to land on the Dadukou Diaoyuzui Peninsula.

On the basis of the Chongqing in vitro diagnosis industry cluster in 2022, Dadukou aims to create "the Western China in-vitro diagnosis industry cluster in 2027 and building the national in vitro diagnosis industry cluster in 2035".
Chongqing Xiaomian Industrial Cluster
Dadukou has successfully cultivated more than 60 upstream and downstream enterprises, and created more than 40 Xiaomian (local noodles) brands.
