The 2025 New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Economic Development Forum

The 2025 New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Economic Development Forum and related events were held in Chongqing from 11 to 13 November. The forum, themed "Innovation, Collaboration, Shared Benefits, and Empowerment", focused on the high-quality development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

It released the International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Development Report (2024–2025) and the first full-schedule services for China–Laos–Thailand freight trains, and presented progress in building the corridor's integrated service system.

These activities further deepened cooperation across multiple sectors.

Chongqing’s Innovations and Infrastructure Advances

In recent years, Chongqing has:

  • Launched the two-way "ASEAN Express" linking the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor with the China–Europe Railway Express
  • Pioneered the full-schedule China–Laos–Thailand freight train service
  • Introduced innovative solutions such as the "railway cage car + ro-ro vessel" model and high-quality rail–river–sea multimodal routes
  • Supported the completion of a 1,150-kilometre "hydrogen corridor"

Impressive Growth in 2025

In the first ten months of 2025:

  • Freight volume through the corridor reached 272,300 TEUs, up 33% year-on-year
  • Cargo value totaled RMB 48.962 billion, up 27% year-on-year
  • Intermodal volume through the hub corridor reached 146,000 TEUs, a 22% increase

Integrated Industrial Development

Construction of the hub port industrial park is progressing, with 268 projects signed and under way, representing total investment of RMB 212.5 billion, forming an integrated development pattern of "corridor + logistics + trade + industry".

Strengthening Regional Cooperation

  • The China–Laos–Thailand "Three Countries, Three Parks" initiative is advancing steadily.
  • Chongqing issued the Implementation Plan for Accelerating the Development of a Modern Collection and Distribution System (2024–2029), outlining 156 major projects with total investment of RMB 950.9 billion.

Digital and Smart Corridor Progress

  • The Digital Land-Sea Corridor now covers more than 600 entities, consolidating 400 million customs and logistics data entries and exceeding 80 million shared data calls.
  • Smart systems for rail–sea intermodal transport and international rail intermodal transport have been launched.
  • Coordinated supervision functions such as the Chongqing–Guangxi "Land-Sea Link" and the "One-Code-Through" service are being rolled out more widely.

Expanded International Customs Cooperation

The China–ASEAN Customs Interconnection Liaison Mechanism was established in Chongqing, expanding cooperation to eight ASEAN member states and extending to Central Asia.
