Jinfeng Laboratory



Jinfeng Laboratory is a strategic scientific and technological force established by Chongqing to support the development of the Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Circle and to build a nationally influential innovation hub. As the first “Chongqing Laboratory” to enter operation, it serves as a core pillar of the city’s “416” science and innovation framework and underpins the development of a life sciences and health innovation highland. The laboratory focuses on major scientific challenges and critical “bottleneck” technologies in the life and health sciences, with next-generation diagnostics for major diseases as its central mission. It conducts foundational research under the Pathological Phenomics Project and develops cross-scale, multimodal disease imaging technologies, aiming to establish new systems and methods for disease classification, support industrial innovation, foster new forms of productivity, and build an open, hub-oriented and platform-based innovation centre.

The laboratory occupies a site of 128 mu, with a total floor area of 135,000 square metres. Since its official launch in June 2022, the first phase of 100,000 square metres of research and development facilities has been put into operation. Eight research platforms have been established, including the Intelligent Pathology Laboratory, Disease Phenomics Laboratory, Pathological Spatiotemporal Omics Centre, Experimental Animal Centre and Single-cell Transcriptomics Platform, alongside diagnostic facilities such as the Precision Diagnosis Centre. The laboratory has attracted 41 principal investigator (PI) teams and brought together more than 400 researchers. By leveraging the advantages of China’s new national system, it has developed clear task lists and adopted an integrated approach covering basic research, applied basic research and technology transfer, enabling more organised research activity and improving innovation efficiency. The laboratory has achieved notable progress in areas such as original research into the pathogenesis of glioblastoma and breakthroughs in key “bottleneck” technologies for intelligent pathology diagnosis.


In 2025, Jinfeng Laboratory successfully completed its three-year foundation-building objectives. The laboratory initiated and implemented the “Million-scale Pan-disease Standardised Pathology Database Plan”, generating a series of original research outcomes, and was selected as one of the first pilot units for the national high-quality dataset programme. It also achieved its first breakthrough in independently cultivating national-level talent. The first branch of the National Stem Cell Resource Library and the pathology phenotypic data branch of the National Genomic Science Data Centre were successfully established at the laboratory. Platform development entered a new stage, marked by the laboratory hosting the 15th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society for Stem Cell Research, a milestone event of national significance. As a result, the laboratory’s industry influence and international profile have risen markedly.
