The "Chongqing Trade Global" Exhibition Debuted in ASEAN

From August 31 to September 2, the Chongqing Trade Global - Chongqing Export Goods (Thailand) Exhibition was held at Bangkok's Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the proposal of jointly building the "Belt and Road" initiative. With the official global effectiveness of RCEP, China-Thailand economic and trade relations have entered a new stage of development. China has been Thailand's largest trading partner for 10 consecutive years, and in 2022, China became Thailand's largest source of investment. The economic and trade cooperation between Chongqing and Thailand is also strengthening. In 2022, the total import and export volume between Chongqing and Thailand was 18.5 billion CNY, accounting for 15% of ASEAN countries, with a cumulative investment amount of 35 million USD in Thailand.

The Chongqing Trade Global - Chongqing Export Goods (Thailand) Exhibition in Bangkok is the first time in recent years that the Chongqing Municipal Commerce Commission has made a strong appearance in ASEAN. At the exhibition, both sides actively engaged in business cooperation. After more than three months of preliminary preparation, the ratio of Chongqing companies to foreign companies invited for negotiation reached 1:3, achieving a signed trade amount of 50 million USD and reaching more than 30 potential customers. Chongqing companies also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce.

The exhibition covered multiple fields including motorcycles and components, intelligent equipment, agricultural machinery, general machinery, prefabricated vegetables, and agricultural products. During the 3-day exhibition, Chongqing companies have gained more. After the implementation of RCEP, 39,000 Thai products have received tariff preferences, of which 29,000 have achieved zero tariffs. During the exhibition, a China (Chongqing) Thailand RCEP economic and trade docking meeting was also held. The Thai Machinery Association, and the Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce, attended and delivered speeches, hoping that both sides would strengthen cooperation in digital economy, green economy, and other areas. They stated that they believe that jointly building a community with a shared future between China and Thailand will help accelerate the development of Thailand's new economy. The Chongqing Municipal Commerce Commission, Fengjie County, Lianglu Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, and Chongqing Xiaomian Industry Association have respectively made special presentations.

The Chongqing Municipal Commerce Commission stated that "China and Thailand are both members of RCEP, and we hope to enhance the understanding and mutual trust of companies on both sides through this event, further enhancing the level of economic and trade cooperation between Chongqing and Thailand, as well as ASEAN." Chongqing drives the "Hundred Delegations and Thousand Companies" initiative with the "Chongqing Trade Global" exhibition, and through government support, helps more foreign trade companies take the initiative to participate in international competition.
